Binary Options Trading 101

Everything you need to place your first trade on Pineapple Funding's simulated platform โ€” what binary options are, how our challenges work, and how to manage risk so you can pass and get funded.

What is a binary option?

A binary option is a simple yes/no trade on an asset's price over a fixed time. You choose an asset (like BTC/USD), pick a direction โ€” UP or DOWN โ€” and an expiry. If the price moved your way at expiry, you win a fixed payout. If not, you lose only the amount you staked. No leverage, no margin calls โ€” your maximum loss per trade is always known up front.

Pick UP (Call)

You expect the price to be higher at expiry than when you entered the trade.

Pick DOWN (Put)

You expect the price to be lower at expiry than when you entered the trade.

Choose an expiry

From 1 minute to 1 week. The trade settles the instant the countdown hits zero.

Know your payout

Win and you earn your stake ร— the asset's payout rate (up to 94%). Lose and you only lose the stake.

Placing your first trade

1

Open the Dashboard

Pick an active or funded account from the switcher. No account yet? Start a free $10K demo โ€” no payment needed.

2

Choose an asset

Select a market โ€” forex, crypto, indices, or commodities. Each shows its live price and payout rate.

3

Set your stake & expiry

Enter the amount and pick an expiry. Use the multiplier (x1โ€“x10) to scale your stake in one tap.

4

Pick UP or DOWN

Tap Up if you think price rises, Down if you think it falls. Your trade appears under Open Trades with a live countdown.

5

Wait for expiry

At expiry the platform settles automatically against the live price. Wins credit instantly; losses are capped at your stake.

Passing the challenge

To unlock a funded account you must meet every rule at once. The dashboard tracks each one live.

Hit the profit target

Grow your balance to the target (e.g. +10% on a standard eval). The progress bar tracks it live.

Respect the loss limits

Don't lose more than the daily loss limit or the max drawdown โ€” in a single day or overall.

Consistency rule

No single trading day may exceed 30% of the profit target (70% with Fast Pass). Spread profit across days.

Minimum trading days

Trade at least 4 days (2 with Fast Pass) before you can pass โ€” quality over quantity.

Risk-management tips

  • Start with the free $10K demo to practice with zero risk before buying a challenge.
  • Trade one asset at a time until you understand its typical price behavior.
  • Never risk more than a small percentage of your balance on a single trade โ€” fixed risk is your edge.
  • Pick longer expiries (5mโ€“15m) while learning; 1-minute trades are the hardest to read.
  • Watch the consistency rule โ€” banking a little profit across several days beats one huge day.
  • Use the chart's timeframes and indicators to confirm a direction before entering.

Article 2 ยท Market integrity

Real, live data โ€” not a rigged OTC feed

How Pineapple Funding sources prices, why it matters for every trade you place, and the two things binary-options platforms get accused of most often that we structurally cannot do.

Where our prices come from

Every candle, tick, and settlement price on Pineapple Funding is streamed from real, centralized exchange and data-provider feeds โ€” the same live quotes institutions see. Forex comes from the major interbank venues, crypto from the largest spot exchanges, and indices and commodities from CME futures contracts: Nasdaq 100, S&P 500, Dow 30, DAX, gold, oil, and more. We display the live mid-market price and settle every trade against the actual price that printed at your expiry second.

We do not generate prices. There is no internal price engine running on our side, no random-walk simulation, and no "OTC" session where the platform invents quotes after the real markets close. When the underlying market is closed, that asset simply shows as closed โ€” we never substitute a made-up price to keep you trading.

See it for yourself

The left card is our live BTC/USD feed from real exchanges. The right card is a synthetic price this page is generating right now โ€” it only looks real.

What an OTC synthetic feed actually is

"OTC" (over-the-counter) synthetic data is a price stream the platform generates itself, usually a seeded random walk that mimics a chart. It's popular because it lets a broker stay open 24/7 and offer trading when real markets are closed. The problem is that whoever owns the generator owns the outcome โ€” and that creates a structural conflict of interest you can never see.

  • The platform owns the price generator โ€” it can spike or gap the quote right where the most traders placed trades.
  • Synthetic weekends / 'OTC' assets stay open after the real market closes, trading against a chart no one else can verify.
  • Settlement is whatever the platform's internal engine says it is โ€” there is no external tape to audit against.

Our two promises

We do not manipulate price action

We don't generate prices. The chart you see is the live feed from the real venue, untouched. We have no price engine to nudge, no spread we widen on expiry, and no way to redraw a candle after you've entered.

We do not take counter positions

We are not the other side of your trade. We never profit when you lose and never lose when you win. Your challenge is an evaluation of your skill โ€” our job is to grade it fairly, not to bet against you.

How settlement stays honest

When you open a trade we record the live entry price. At expiry, we read the real market price for that exact second and settle against it โ€” win, lose, or draw. Because that price came from the public venue, you can open any third-party chart for the same symbol and confirm the candle lines up. There is no internal number we could change even if we wanted to.

Why we built it this way

Pineapple Funding is a prop firm, not a brokerage. Our product is a fair evaluation of your trading skill โ€” you prove you can trade, and we back you with a funded account. A prop firm only works if traders trust the grade. If the price action could be moved, or if we made money when you lost, the whole evaluation would be meaningless. So we removed both incentives entirely: real prices, and no counter-position. Your outcome is between you and the market.

Article 3 ยท Mindset

Discipline & emotional control when trading binaries

A winning strategy is only half the job. The other half โ€” the one that ends most traders โ€” is doing the right thing when money is on the line and a clock is ticking. Here's how to stay in control.

Why discipline beats strategy

Binary options are fast. Expiries can be a minute, which means a decision, a stake, and a result all happen before you have time to second-guess. That speed is exactly why emotion wins unless you've already decided your rules in advance. Two traders can have the exact same setup and end a week on opposite sides purely because one followed a plan and the other traded their feelings.

The emotional traps

FOMO (fear of missing out)

Price already ran and you chase it late, entering right as it reverses. The move you missed is gone โ€” the risk is brand new.

Revenge trading

You just lost and want it back now. You double the stake, drop your reason for entering, and trade on anger instead of a setup.

Overtrading / tilt

One loss leads to three more because you stop waiting for your setup. More trades in a bad state just dig a deeper hole.

Greed

You're up, so you push the stake up to 'make it count' โ€” and give back the whole session on one bad call.

Build a trading plan before you open a trade

  • Fixed risk per trade โ€” pick a percentage of your balance (1โ€“3%) and never change it mid-session.
  • A max number of trades per day โ€” when you hit it, you're done, win or lose.
  • A daily loss limit you respect โ€” once you're down that much, you stop for the day. No 'one more to get even.'
  • A written entry setup โ€” only trade when your specific conditions line up. No setup, no trade.
  • Set trading hours โ€” trade when you're rested and focused, not hungry, angry, or tired.

Your pre-trade checklist

Run through this out loud before every entry. If you can't answer yes to the first and last one, don't trade.

1Does this match my setup exactly?
2Is my stake within my fixed risk %?
3Is the market open and liquid right now?
4Am I calm โ€” or am I trading to get a loss back?
5Do I have a reason for this expiry length?

Signs you're on tilt

  • You're increasing stake after a loss.
  • You're entering trades in seconds without checking the setup.
  • You feel a physical urge โ€” tight chest, racing mind โ€” and 'need' to trade.
  • You're checking PnL every few seconds and can't walk away.
  • You've stopped using the chart and are just guessing direction.

Spot any of those? The trade you make next is almost always your worst one. Close the dashboard, walk away for at least 15 minutes, and only come back when you'd be fine not trading at all. The market will be there tomorrow.

The one rule that saves accounts

Stop for the day the moment you hit your daily loss limit โ€” no exceptions, no 'I'll feel it out.' One disciplined day that ends early protects a whole week of progress. The traders who pass challenges aren't the ones who never lose; they're the ones who lose small and stop.
